We use the structure 对…感兴趣 to state the subject of someone’s interest.
Scheme
who
对
what/who
感兴趣
Pay attention
Note that 感兴趣 is a separable word, where 感 is a verb “to feel” and 兴趣 is a noun “interest”. Therefore, it cannot be followed by a direct object.
The phrase “to be interested in something” can only be constructed with the preposition 对.
Examples
你对什么感兴趣?
What are you interested in?
nĭ duì shénme gănxìngqù
他对化学感兴趣
He is interested in chemistry
tā duì huàxué gǎnxìngqù
Sometimes 感兴趣 can be preceded by adverbs of degree.
Examples
我对打乒乓球非常感兴趣
I am very interested in playing table tennis
wǒ duì dǎ pīngpāngqiú fēicháng gǎnxìngqù
To express the negative “to not be interested in” we should use the negative particle 不 before 感兴趣.
Examples
他对女孩子还不感兴趣
He is not interested in girls yet
tā duì nǚháizi hái bù gǎnxìngqù
有兴趣
To express “to have an interest in” we can use the phrase 有兴趣 .
It can be either used in a structure with a preposition or used by itself.
When we use 有兴趣 without a preposition, we use the following structure:
Scheme
who
有兴趣
what-to-do
Pay attention
有兴趣 is often used with an action, and can be translated as: “to have an interest in doing something”. The action can be expressed by a single verb or an entire phrase.
Examples
有些学生有兴趣在体育部工作
Some students are interested in working in the sports department
yǒuxiē xuéshēng yǒu xìngqù zài tǐyùbù gōngzuò
我当然有兴趣这么做
I'm certainly interested in doing that
wǒ dāngrán yǒu xìngqù zhème zuò
We can also use the structure 对…有兴趣. It is used in the same way as 对…感兴趣, but much less often.
Examples
你真的对喜剧有兴趣吗?
Do you really have an interest in comedy?
nǐ zhēnde duì xǐjù yǒu xìngqù ma
还有谁对这片星系有兴趣的?
Who else is interested in this galaxy?
hái yǒu shéi duì zhè piàn xīngxì yǒu xìngqù de
To make the negation of this structure, we should use the negative particle 没 before 有兴趣.
