The conjunction is used to indicate that there are other circumstances as well. It connects parts of a simple sentence with a compound predicate.

The adverb 同时
同时 can also be an adverb “at the same time”. In this case, it is placed before a verb.

The structure 在…的同时
同时 can be used in the structure to indicate that the first action happens simultaneously with the second action.
