Expressing “generally” with 大致 and 大体
The adverbs 大致 and 大体 have the same translation but can be used in the different contexts.
The same meaning
We can use the adverbs and interchangeably in the meaning “generally”, “largely”, “roughly”. They should be stated before a predicate, which is expressed by a verb or an adjective.
Examples
他们俩的意见大致相同
They both have roughly the same opinion
tāmen liǎ de yìjiàn dàzhì xiāngtóng
大致知道其中的运作原理
I have a general idea of how it works
wǒ dàzhì zhīdào qízhōng de yùnzuò yuánlǐ
大家的经历大体相同
We all have roughly the same experience
dàjiā de jīnglì dàtǐ xiāngtóng
大体说来,我赞成这个想法
Generally speaking, I agree with this idea
dàtǐ shuō lái, wǒ zànchéng zhè ge xiǎngfǎ
The other meaning of 大致
Sometimes we can use 大致 as an adjective in the meaning of “approximate”, “general”. It is often followed by the particle .
Pay attention
We can not use 大体 as an adjective.

tāmen duì zhè ge nánrén zuò le dàzhì de miáoshù
