We use the adverb 倒是 to soften a statement. We use it in interrogative sentences to find something out .
We should state 倒是 before a verb or a verb phrase.

A verb phrase is a combination of a verb and an auxiliary word. The auxiliary word can be either an auxiliary verb or an object.

你倒是要不要来?
Would you rather come?
nǐ dǎoshì yào bú yào lái
我倒是希望有一个旅伴得很呢
I would like to have a travel partner very much!
wǒ dǎoshì xīwàng yǒu yí ge lǚbàn de hěn ne
Pay attention
In this case, 倒是 is very similar to 到底 .
However sometimes 倒是 can be translated as "though".

我们本倒是愿意邀请所有亲戚的,但总得有个限度呀
Although we would have liked to invite all our relatives, there must be a limit!
wǒmen běn dǎoshì yuànyì yāoqǐng suǒyǒu qīnqī de, dàn zǒngde yǒu ge xiàndù ya
