How to express “to admire” with 羡慕 and 倾慕
Although these verbs have the same translation, their meanings are slightly different.
The verb 羡慕
We use the verb to emphasize that someone wants to have the same abilities or opportunities as another person.
Examples
你不要羡慕别人
You should not envy other people
nǐ bú yào xiànmù biéren
羡慕她, 她似乎要什么有什么
He envied her, as it seemed like she had everything she wanted
tā xiànmù tā, tā sìhū yào shénme yǒu shénme
她这个女人美丽得让人羡慕
Many people envy this woman’s beauty
tā zhè ge nǚrén měilì de ràng rén xiànmù
The verb 倾慕
We use the verb to emphasize that a person adores someone or feel deep emotions toward someone.
